Unit 4 Exercise

~ ~ Loving Kindness Exercise ~ ~

My experience with the loving kindness exercise was very difficult at first because I  have worked 3rd shift  and it was very very busy at work and all I wanted to do was to go to sleep. But after listening to it after several times it became very beneficial to me. The waves of the ocean when they come rolling in on the beach when the birds was singing, the wind blowing that really really made me very  relaxed as I closed my eyes. When I closed my eyes while listening the ocean I felt that I was really there on the beach as well as the birds singing and flying around me, and the wind blowing on me.

~ ~ Mental Workout ~ ~

A mental workout would be a day-to-day commitment to apply or learning of inner peace as well as human flourishing. Actually I think that a mental workout is just like a physical workout as well as that it is just as of great magnitude to recuperate your physical body at the same time as mental exercise is imperative to convalesce your mental prominence.

  1. Hi Rachel, I am glad to hear that you have been listening to the loving-kindness meditation. I have listened a few times. Every time I get into my meditation, the woman's voice startles me. I like your idea of a mental workout. Personally, I came back to school to get a mental workout, but I can see that meditation can be a mental workout as well.

  2. Hi Rachel,

I had a hard time listening to the loving kindness mp3 too. I'm just not "into" relaxation exercises like that. I tend to prefer self-guided relaxation, such as listening to some sort of white or pink noise, i.e. a fan or the rain. But I do agree that something like that can be beneficial for the right person.

  3. Hi Rachel.

I completely understand about the long hours and the need for sleep or rest. So the first couple of times did you fall asleep? Or was it just hard to concentrate. I decided to try and do this before I start my schoolwork instead of at the very end of the day. If it does what it's supposed to do it should help me to be more focused on what I'm doing. It is still hard to concentrate after working all day though, I must say. When i close my eyes either my mind is racing or it wants to shut down all together. I imagine with practice it will get better. I will try and repeat the exercise as you did hoping to get better results.
